Tips to choose a Console.

With so many different options available in gaming consoles, how do you decide which one to buy?  So many gaming consoles are available and they all look good, the games have great graphics and it would seem that they are alike.  Below is a list of considerations to consider when purchasing a video game console. 

Cost

This is likely the most obvious of all the considerations when purchasing a video game console.  With a gaming system, often we want more than we can afford.  While it might seem like you cannot live without the latest video game console, maybe you need to wait until the cost comes down.  Many gaming consoles go down in price significantly after a few months out on the market.  When considering cost, you could also consider buying a used system as a way to save money or opt for a lower cost system.  Right now, a PS2 or a Nintendo GameCube can be purchased for a low price and their games are still very good and entertaining.

New vs. Used Console:

Do you need a brand new video game system?  Thatis a good question to ask yourself, especially in these tough economic times.  While a new video game system is certainly high on the list for many of us, sometimes we have to admit that a used video game console would work just fine.  Look for a good quality used video game system on auction sites like eBay. 

Connectivity:

Backwards Compatible Games

Even if you upgrade to a new video game console, sometimes itis fun to play some of your older games.  Look for a video game system that allows you to play some of your older games on the new system.  Right now many of the newer systems allow this including the PS3 and Xbox.

Hardcore Gamer or Novice?

If you are a hardcore gamer, definitely the PlayStation 3 is the game console that you will most likely want.  With a huge library of the hottest games, it is a great console.  For those that have never owned a video game console before, the Nintendo Wii is proving to be a very popular video game system.  With the ability to get into the game more than ever before, the Nintendo Wii is perfect for first time video game buyers.

Game Types

If you are looking for a specific game, you may need to purchase one type of video game console to be able to play that game.  For example, if there is a certain first person shooter series that you enjoy playing, often they will only be available in one video game console.  Make sure the games that you want to play are available in the game console that you are looking at.

Does It Do Anything Else?

Some of the newest video game systems, like the PS3 also play BluRay discs.  Some video game systems also play DVDs or audio CDs or allow web surfing.  This means that you wont have to purchase another type of electronic device so the video game console actually saves you money!
