With the popularity of Nintendo Entertainment System, it came time for the creation of even more portability in a game system. The idea for the Nintendo Game Boy originally started in the 1970s but was first released in 1989. The creators wanted to create a game that was not only completely portable, but also light, relatively inexpensive, as well as durable. The Game Boy was named to represent its similarity to its big brother, the NES, as it was the same color, had the same configuration of buttons as on the NES controllers, and it used mini cartridges. The Nintendo Game Boy was quite technologically advanced for its time with an 8-bit processor and 8kBs of RAM. It wasn not much to look at in terms of screen size and color (only having four different shades of grey), but the makers thought of everything to make the portable gaming experience a great one for the player. If one was tired of going through batteries all the time, there were jacks built into the side to allow the plugging in of a rechargeable battery pack or AC adapter. There was also a headphone jack that was a welcome addition, especially for parents. One could even link two Game Boys together for two-player games. One could even purchase a Game Boy Camera attachment and a Game Boy Printer to print the pictures out on.
